Bald Mountain Airport Vista (GCG4JQ) (try #2)

I took another stab at cache GCG4JQ today. I actually managed to get on the right trail. I had a nice hike, but ended up taking a trail which I thought would lead up the mountain faster, but actually dumped by back by my car. Since it was getting dark, at 3pm, which means rain, heavy, heavy rain with the thunder and lightning, and me with no umbrealla, I went back to the car and called it a day. Damn you Airport Vista! I will get to the top of that damn thing one of these days.

Sunghee is in Korea finally. The Sunday morning flight went as planned, however, a little snag showed up as her green card was issued before she was married, so it has her maiden name on it, while everything else has her present name. That’s going to be a problem when she comes back. I spent the day tracking down the marriage license, having it notarized and shipped that along with copies of all her other immigration papers via FedEx to her dad in Korea. That should be enough to get the green card changed at the embassy. *fingers crossed*

Sunghee left at 4:30 this morning to get on a plane at 9:40 in Albany to fly to Chicago, then from Chicago to Tokyo then to Seoul. At 7:15am she called and had apparently forgotten her green card. I called work, said I’d be a little late, threw my clothes on and left at 7:30. 1 hour and 15 minutes later (100 miles, you do the math), I arrived at the Albany airport to find that the itinerary that Sunghee had printed out the night before is completely wrong. She should be getting on a 8:50 flight, which had already left the gate. Frantic phone calls to the travel agency amounted to nothing as the computers didn’t come on until 10am or something. Anyways, she was not able to get on to the 9:40am flight. They did have a flight tomorrow, but the Chicago to Tokyo part was full. She could fly on Sunday from Albany to San Francisco then to Seoul, but, you know, she really wants to leave today. At 10am I escorted Sunghee to the shuttle bus so she could go back to her can and get on the phone to the travel agency to figure out what the hell was going on and I drove back to work. Fun fun day.

Update: Travel agency is still sticking by their guns that the 9:40 flight was hers and there’s nothing they can do. She’s back in Rutland for the next two days and is flying out Sunday at 6am.

Kent Pond Beaver Cut (GCH0NA)

My first geocache found! CJ and Sunghee came along, but the trail looked a little too rough for CJ so they stayed behind and played by the Kent Pond and watched the people fishing. Soon after I started off on the path I realized that I had to cross a river. I kept looking for rocks or something to walk on so I could get across. When I was just starting to get worried that I would have to get wet I found a bridge. Yay! Once on the other side of the river it was pretty easy to find the location of the cache. My GPS got me within 10 feet or so of it. It took some digging to locate it as it had been covered by several inches of leaves. I recorded my find, took a dinosaur and left a marionette. This looks like it’s going to be a fun hobby. Sunghee and I decided to try finding some after work during the week instead of bringing CJ along due to the amount of walking that is needed.

Trip to the Korean food store

Today Sunghee, Yung-Sun, CJ and I took the monthly trip to Albany for Korean food. This time we went to the Exit 2 store instead of the Exit 6 one as Sunghee had some videos to return, and they were about 6 months late. Anyways, I like this store much better. Lots and lots of fun stuff.

!/images/16.jpg (Pocky)!

First up we have our old friend Pocky. This is basically pretzel sticks dipped in chocolate. Yummy.

!/images/17.jpg (Mousse Pocky)!

Chocolate Mousse Pocky. Same thing, but with chocolate mousse. I haven’t had this yet, but it looks good.

!/images/18.jpg (Men’s Pocky)!

Men’s Pocky. Not too sure about this. At first I thought that “Men’s” was maybe the brand name, but on further inspection all three of these are made by Glico. Now I’m thinking that this is a Man’s Pocky. Rough, rugged and manly. Although eating a manly candy scares me a little.

!/images/19.jpg (Lychee)!

I have never heard of Lychee before. It looks both good and cool, with it’s spiny red skin and pear-like soft inside. After some research this fruit originated in China, but is grown in the tropical areas of the US as well (Hawaii, Florida, California). I think I’m going to have some for dinner tomorrow.

!/images/20.jpg (Crunch Up)!

Crunch Up! These just look fun. There’s three chocolate and two strawberry. The bag proclaims “Cereal & Choco Ensemble”. I had one of the strawberry and it sort of tasted like a Nestle Crunch gone horribly wrong. I’m going to wait a bit before trying the chocolate.

!/images/21.jpg (Gummy)!

Gummy. Pictured is Apple, Muscat (white grape?), Grape, Pineapple. There was an Orange but I opened that already and had one. It was good, but I think Yung-Sun took the rest of the bag.

!/images/22.jpg (Banana Chips)!

Banana Chips. I’ve made these before with my Ronco Food Dehydrator. These are better though. And there’s a lot! About a pound of the stuff is in that bag. None of that “Sold by weight, not volume. Contents may settle during shipment” crap here.

Green tea ice cream mix. I really like green tea ice cream, but have a hard time finding it. Now I can make my own!
